Step 1. Choosing the poem

Eye of Fire Your eyes are fire Their image burnt into my soul Scared by beauty

Step 2. Brainstorming words from poem

Step 3. Drawing brief ideas

In this step I used three words that I liked from the brainstorming part and used them to create ideas using six ideas for each word. In every column I tried to use a similar concept (e.g., the ideas on the first column were generated by circles).  The dots in the boxes are the ideas that I liked the most, and I decided to use them to explore more detailed ideas.

Step 4. Exploring my favorite ideas with a pen

After choosing my favorite ideas from Step 2, I drew them up with a black pen. These were very rough as I did not use any ruler. From the boxes which were dotted, I tried to mix them up and link a few parts from each of the boxes to give more details on each idea. I used a lot of lines, empty circles and boxes to represent my theme. As the poem is about the speaker missing her dead friend, I used lines to show the connection among the objects. Also, as you can see, there are a lot of empty spaces which I employed to express emptiness.

Step 5. Final Design

After deciding my favorite design from step three, I got a ruler and compass to create perfect lines and figures. With the use of my Vivid marker, I created where I wanted the lines to be thicker, hence my final design.  spaces which I employed to express emptiness.
