Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies, first announced and released in June 2005 at Apple Inc.'s Worldwide Developers Conference as a Mac OS X-exclusive game engine.
In class we learnt about this game engine called Unity from lecturer Prasanth Sasikumar, which was a new experience for me. He taught us basic skills so we can get familiar with them and to do more complex stuff, such as VR and AR.
Through the tutorials and simple experiments, I was able to learn a lot of Unity skills, such as moving the object, creating spheres and cubes, adjusting the light position and cameras, and other cool stuff as well. At first I downloaded the free 3D car model from Free3D.com and with the model, I played around with it with other objects.

While learning Unity, I also faced a lot of difficulties. At first, I was having trouble with downloading the free models to Unity, which took me more than 30 mins to sort it out. Also, when I was changing the view to the game mode, everything was black and nothing was moving. But I figured it out in the end.
In my final creation, I made ‘Falling Earth’, which was super easy and simple to do and looked funny at the same time. I downloaded the earth map.jpg from Google and I pasted it on the sphere object. After that, I duplicated the Earth sphere and set the Rigidbody to set the gravity of an object.
After experiencing Unity, I found it very attractive. Even though it was quite complex and hard for me when I first used it, by solving the problems one by one, I found myself enjoying by playing around with Unity. I felt like Unity could be a game engine that everyone from beginners to experts can enjoy and make their own types of games. Also, while using Unity, I personally think that what makes it the best are the availability of great features in even the basic free version and the ability to design multiplayer games.
If I have a chance to learn Unity properly, I’d love to be part of a Unity game designer team and want to explore more of VR in the future. And if possible, I want to make my own VR game that everyone can enjoy and play.
