In the first Mixed Realities class, we learnt about AR and VR and their basic concepts. Also, during the class, we had a chance to experiment with different tools, such as augmented reality glasses, iPad that makes drawing come to real life, VR headsets. Then, we talked about social media and their use of face filters. Finally, we got homework in which we had to make our own face filter using Spark AR Studio.

Spark AR Studio is an augmented reality platform for Mac & Windows that allows you to create AR effects somewhat easily for mobile cameras. Think of it like Photoshop or Sketch, but for AR.

Regarding the idea for my face filter, before even starting with my software, I was already thinking about covering my face with tattoos. I have one lettering tattoo on my left arm, and I am currently thinking of getting another one. For me, tattoos are an art and they’re another way to show your own style and fashion. To be honest, I don’t think I will get one on my face forever, but I have always thought about what I would look like if I had a tattoo on my face. So I decided to do my face filter using tattoos.

I followed a YouTube tutorial by Udart to see how I can put different types of tattoos on my filters. For the selection of my tattoos, I chose quite a lot of letterings, which is my favorite type of tattoo.

As a result, I was able to see what I would look like if I had tattoos on my face, and I don’t think I will ever get tattoos on my face. Anyway, overall, I am quite satisfied with my work, and I think it was a valuable time to learn this kind of experience.
